Maria Mater Missericordiae Catholic Hospital is a Catholic Mission Hospital wholly governed and operated in Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria.
Her mission is to extend the presence and healing ministry of Christ to all who seek her services.
MMM is an acronym for Maria Mater Missericordiae (Mary Mother of Mercy). Mother of Mercy is one of the titles that the Catholic Church gave to the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ. Different Institutions from time to time are named after her as we can see in the case of this noble institution – MMM Catholic Hospital, Ondo.
The hospital was established in the year 1972 and is widely known in the city for its outstanding medical care and service.
Our History
Bishop William Richard Field, SMA an Irish born priest who served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Nigeria between 1958 and 1976 built the hospital at the time when there were no enough health care institutions in Ondo town to attend to the sick.
He wanted a hospital that will be accessible to people from okitipupa and irele parts of the Diocese and at the same time, cater for Ondo people. So, he built and invited the Sisters of the Medical Missionaries of Mary(MMM Sisters) to run the hospital.
The Sisters of Medical Missionary of Mary worked tirelessly until the year 1997 when the administration of the hospital was handed over to the Sisters of Saint Michael the Archangel with Rev. Sr. Dr. Ogunkorode Agatha being the first SSMA Matron of the hospital.
Since then, the hospital has continued to be an epitome of life and health amongst Ondo people and neighborhoods. MMM Catholic Hospital Ondo or The Catholic Hospital as well-known and called, is a noble, top-notch Mission Hospital, where the dignity of everyone is protected and respected while catering to their health and souls.
